StoryBranch is run by Terminarch Games. This page describes exactly what the site stores, why it stores it, and how to get rid of it. It is deliberately short, because the site collects deliberately little.
If you never sign in
Nothing that identifies you is stored on our servers. Your browser keeps a random id in local storage so that a story you rate stays rated, and a note of which stories you have opened so a refresh is not counted as a second view. Both live on your device and are never linked to a name or an email address. Clearing your browser data removes them.
We count how many times each story is played, but only as a total per story — not as a list of who played what.
If you sign in
We store:
- your email address, so we can recognise you next time;
- your name and profile picture, if you signed in with Google and it provided them, so the site can greet you;
- which stories you have started and finished;
- the ratings you have given.
The legal basis is the contract between us: you asked for an account so the site can remember these things for you. We do not sell this data, share it with advertisers, or use it to build a profile of you. There is no advertising or third-party analytics on this site.
Who else sees it
The site runs on Cloudflare (hosting, database and file storage). If you sign in with Google, Google tells us your email address, name and picture. If you sign in with an email link, our email provider Resend handles delivering that one message. Each of them acts on our instructions and nothing more.
Cookies
One cookie, set only when you sign in, which keeps you signed in. It is strictly necessary for that purpose, so there is no consent banner to click. No tracking or advertising cookies are set, ever.
Deleting everything
Go to your account and press Delete my account. That removes your account, your watch history and your ratings immediately and permanently. You do not have to ask us, and you do not have to explain why.
You can also ask for a copy of what we hold, or ask us to correct it, by emailing [email protected]. If you are in the EU or UK and think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to your national data protection authority.
Retention
Account data is kept until you delete your account. Sign-in links expire after 15 minutes and are destroyed once used. Sessions expire after 60 days.
